The Vertical Beatitudes (1-4)

In this episode of People in Exile, Andrew, Ben, and Chris discuss the first four Beatitudes.  How can we understand the Beatitudes?  What do we mean when we say, "vertical beatitudes" and "horizontal beatitudes"? 

1. Poor in Spirit,
2. Mourn,
3. Meek,
4. Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness.

A. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven,
B. They shall be comforted,
C. They shall inherit the earth,
​D. They shall be satisfied.
